L'insuffisance cardiaque est une pathologie dont l'incidence ne cesse de croître depuis bientôt dix ans dans les pays développés. L'augmentation de l'espérance de vie, l'amélioration du pronostic de l'hypertension artérielle et des cardiopathies sont autant de raisons à l'augmentation constante du nombre d'insuffisants cardiaques, estimés aujourd'hui en France à 500 000. L'insuffisance cardiaque pose donc un véritable problème de santé publique, tant en termes de propositions de soins que de coût. Comme pour toute pathologie chronique, cette maladie nécessite une approche globale et pluridisciplinaire : la prévention et l'éducation du patient sont souvent la clé de l'observance thérapeutique et de l'acceptation des règles hygiéno-diététiques. La Cible d'Auto-Surveillance de l'Insuffisant Cardiaque, la CASIC, est un nouvel instrument d'évaluation et d'accompagnement du patient basé sur l'auto-surveillance régulière de la triade dyspnée-poids-oedèmes . Cet outil pédagogique est utilisé au sein de l'Unité Thérapeutique de l'Insuffisance Cardiaque (UTIC) du CHU de Bordeaux selon une procédure bien définie.
