Where is kitty? It's time for his nap and Mama Cat can't find him. Kitty just wants to play and pounce all day saying he's not tired. Finally, Mama convinces Kitty that nap time is quiet time and Kitty's meows quickly turn to purrs and a long nap. The loveable animals and simple repetitive text with bold words are appealing to the youngest reader. This book and the eight others in the "Hello Genius" series are not about teaching young children how to read; they are about teaching young children to want to read. Glossy, oversized and sturdy pages make it easy for small hands to hold and explore. Infants, toddlers and preschoolers will be attracted to the bright, simple pictures with little detail but lots of color. All the books promote early concepts, animal recognition, speaking skills and first words. Reading to babies and young children helps promote later reading success and this series is a good starting point. It is never too early to pique children's interest in books. The publisher offers downloadable coloring pages for preschool readers on some of the titles. Additionally, educators can access curriculum correlations for the entire series to standards and requirements for each U.S. state. As the saying goes, you have to walk before you can run. But you also have to be read to before you can read. Do not delay; read together every day. Reviewer: Suzanne Javid
