About the Author

SHARRON L. MCELMEEL is Adjunct Instructor at the University of Wisconsin - Stout, and Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also is a writer and educational consultant who has built a national reputation in the area of children's literature and is an often-requested conference speaker. She was named Iowa Reading Teacher of the Year in 1987, and in 2003 she received the Iowa Reading Association's State Literacy Award in recognition of her lifelong efforts to build literacy and literature appreciation in the community. In 2004, she was named one of the top ten online educators by Innovative Teaching Newsletter. She maintains a Web site at www.mcelmeel.com.
