From "Achilles costume" to "Zuni mask", this index presents over 15,000 projects relating to multicultural handicrafts, foods, games, and activities. The aim is to enable educators to assist children of all ages in creating projects reflecting the varying cultures of our world. Subject headings are followed by a description of the project, then a number in brackets that correlates to the list of books indexed at the back of the book, and, finally, page numbers where the project will be found in that book. For example, under "Navajo Indians--musical instruments", we find that there is an article on making a drum rattle on pages 54-5 of book #468. The subject headings are quite encompassing, covering all imaginable holidays, countries, and ethnic groups around the world. The list of books indexed contains 1,161 sources, as recent as 1990 and as far back as 1950. The availability of sources that old is questionable. Nevertheless, the majority of the books do have more recent publication dates. Not all the books listed in the back of this volume are indexed here, as there are two "cousin" publications by the same author ("Crafts Index for Young People" [$42.50, 1-56308-002-8] and "Holidays" "and Special Days Project Index for Young People" [$29.50, 0-87287-998-4]) that use the same resource list With the emphasis on the study and awareness of multiculturalism in schools today, this index is a valuable tool from which educators can choose projects to be incorporated into the curriculum. "Multicultural Projects Index" will be a useful resource for elementary and middle school libraries and for public libraries' children's collections where students need a resource from which to choose a school project. In whichever facility this index is housed, it is suggested that those books that are available in the library be highlighted for easy access.
