This series focuses on dangerous and heroic jobs that appeal to young readers who may be interested in one of these fields, and those whose parents might work in these high-adrenaline fields. All of the books include full-color photos, a table of contents, and an index. An added feature is the “Words to Understand” at the bottom of some pages that highlight and define words specific to these jobs that readers may not know, such as “aeronautics,” “claustrophobic,” and “hoists.” Each title also has a glossary at the end with all of the new terms. Another feature is the “Find Out More” section which lists related books and web sites offering more information. This is helpful for a reader who is doing a paper or project on this career, or one who wants to pursue this career in the future. The books all have large-size fonts so they are easy to read and do not appear overwhelming, and the numerous pictures, summaries, and sidebars help break up the text. These would be appropriate for an upper-elementary through middle-school setting. (On a Mission) Reviewer: Kate Neff; Ages 11 to 14.
