During her long life, Ruth Barbara Rendell penned more than 70 novels, saw her work adapted into a long-running television series, and was appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. When not producing a truly staggering volume of work, she married the same man twice and raised a son. Praised for rich prose and deeply imagined characters, Rendell's books, including the celebrated Inspector Wexford novels, have sold tens of millions of copies and have garnered awards including Silver, Gold, and Cartier Diamond honors from the august Crime Writers' Association. Rendell died in 2015 at the age of 85.
