MISS WHISTLER
A small African-American girl growing up poor can't speak because the industrial around the trailer she lives in has damaged her vocal chords. Her Mom works long hours, leaving her daughter alone, her only friends the neighborhood birds who she chirps playfully chirps with. A terrible traffic accident sends a tractor trailer truck crashing through a guard rail, headed for the trailer. The birds clutch the night gown of their little friend with their beaks and carry her far away to a country setting by a winding stream. The next morning she's discovered by an elderly couple sleeping in their car. They feed her, give her a bubble bath and the husband, a musical director, marvels at the songs she and the birds whistle together. Meanwhile, her Mama is broken-hearted, thinking her daughter perished in the firey crash. She loses the will to live and is taken in by a hospital for the homeless. On a walk one day with a nurse, she sees a picture of her daughter on the front page of a newspaper, under the headline: MISS WHISTLER MAKES CONCERT DEBUT. Of course no one believes that it's her daughter. On the night of the performance she sneaks in to the music hall. The show is a huge success. When Mama rushes the stage the director grabs her and leads her off the stage. But the birds come to her rescue, swooping down on him until he lets her go. Daughter and her mother are reunited, a world tour is planned for Miss Whistler and the birds, and wha follows is a happy ending filled with love, hope and inspiration.
