The author earned her Girl Scout sewing badge in the fourth grade and that was the beginning. She moved on to other sewing and quilting projects over the years. She made her own wardrobe when money was tight and made many different kings of gifts for people over the years.

Sewing and quilting helps the author unlock her creativity for other projects. She is an educational materials author and she came up with the idea of using a measuring tape to help teach math concepts while making a blouse and shorts for herself.
