Gr 2-5-This collection of British-authored poems, many of which have been previously published, is about outrageous pets and other bizarre animals. A dog that brings the postman as well as the newspaper home in his mouth; a cat that turns out to be a tiger; a snake that becomes trapped in the loo; a crocodile that polishes off the dentist while having his tooth filled; a pterodactyl who carries off members of the family in its long beak-all are among the preposterous subjects. The macabre humor of the cartoonlike drawings matches that of the poems. Pages are cluttered with busy illustrations, and the endpapers, crayoned as if by a young child, add to the mess.
