Puppy!, by Keith Graves
According to this funny picture book by Keith Graves, even cave kids were begging their parents for puppies! Trog had all that a cave boy should want (stick, rock, mud), but what he really wanted was a puppy! So Trog sets out on a journey to find his own pup companion, and ends up bringing home what he thinks is a dog but actually a swamp creature who likes to eat everything in sight (including furniture and boulders). As you can imagine, chaos ensues!

But when a burglar breaks into the house, Pinkerton saves the day and ends up getting an A for putting his wacky tactics to good use.
