Add to that new locations, new villains, and new adventures and you’ve got yourself an epic addition to this highly anticipated series! Here are the five reasons we can’t wait for The Tyrant’s Tomb:

First—new locations. Not only are we headed to the San Francisco Bay Area, but we also get to visit Camp Jupiter—the Roman demigod camp equivalent to Camp Half-Blood. True, if you’ve read Riordan’s Percy Jackson series, you’ve been here before. But it will be the main setting for The Tyrant’s Tomb. Like Percy Jackson, the Trials of Apollo takes place across the United States. It’s one of Riordan’s strengths—blending ancient mythology with modern day people and places. As though, if we look closely around us, we too might spot satyrs, demigods, and Oracles.

Second—new battles. As in, we’re gonna experience a battle of a lifetime. According to www.rickriordan.com, “the Roman demigods are preparing for a desperate last stand against the evil Triumvirate of Roman emperors” as they descend on Camp Jupiter. (Which, if you’re one of the demigods, sounds BAD.) Riordan is skilled in crafting battle scenes, so we can only imagine this one will be as nerve-wracking and white-knuckling as his others. Get ready to fight!

Third—new characters. Or rather, the resurgence of old characters in a new story. In book three, The Burning Maze, we were reintroduced to Piper McLean, Jason Grace, and Grover Underwood, all of whom made appearances in earlier series. How Riordan weaves storylines and characters together is mesmerizing and leaves us wondering if Riordan will bring back any past series’ favorites in The Tyrant’s Tomb. We can only hope!

Fourth—new development. We get closer to seeing Apollo restored as a god. Hopefully. After Zeus punishes him by stripping him of his godly powers and making him human, Apollo (aka Lester Papadopoulos) has fought enemies, endured trials at Camp Half-Blood, and restored darkened Oracles—all in hopes of reclaiming his godly powers. How much more can Apollo / Lester endure before succumbing to his human fate?

Fifth—new hope. It’s not over yet. While we won’t get all the answers we may want in The Tyrant’s Tomb, we’re close. This is a five book series, after all. We’ve got time to speculate Apollo’s fate and whether or not he’ll accomplish what he set out to do. (Fingers crossed!) Knowing Riordan, he’ll leave us wanting more.

For more mythological fun, check out a few of Riordan’s other best-selling demigod series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus. Riordan is also behind the imprint Rick Riordan presents, whose goal is “to publish great middle grade authors from underrepresented cultures and backgrounds, to let them tell their own stories inspired by the mythology and folklore of their own heritage.” These terrific book include the Pandava series, Dragon Pearl, the Storm Runner series, and more.
