Change is hard—especially when you’re 12. In Han’s debut, a sweet middle grade story, Annemarie “Shug” Wilcox wants to be all grown up, right now. Teetering on that edge between kid and teen, she’s slowly falling for her best friend, boy next door Mark, who in turn is smitten with her older sister, Celia. Clearly, Han’s always had a thing for impossible love triangles, and in Shug, you can almost see a younger version of P.S.’s Lara Jean.

The Summer I Turned Pretty
The definition of an impossible love story. At 15, Belly finally starts getting attention—even from Conrad, the boy she’s crushed forever. But Conrad’s got a lot going on: his mom, Susannah, is sick, and he’s dealing with the fallout of his parents’ split. So this last summer at the beach house the two families share feels like a ticking clock, and every moment counts. And then there’s Jeremiah, the younger, easier, sunnier son. Does anyone care how he’s handling things? And will Belly ever realize his feelings for her have changed, too?

For one magical moment, it was all real. In this sequel to The Summer I Turned Pretty, Belly and Conrad were a couple—first dates, stolen kisses, even a night at the prom. But that’s where it all ended, and things will never be the same. For one thing, Susannah’s gone. And Conrad’s MIA, unable to deal with the consequences of his mother’s death and their breakup. Jeremiah, lost in the wake of all this, calls on Belly to search for Conrad, and deals with his own shifting feelings for the girl he used to call his best friend. And then there’s the beach house, which the boys’ dad wants to sell. Everything Belly’s ever known is slipping like sand through her fingers.

We’ll Always Have Summer
Expect the unexpected in this third and final book in the Summer series. A college-aged Belly has been with the younger Fisher brother, Jeremiah, for almost two years—but when things get a little more serious, Belly realizes what’s really at stake. Luckily, the connection she had with older Fisher brother Conrad still simmers. Who will she end up choosing? Okay, so some of this pushes believability, but c’mon, it’s fiction! And in classic Han style, the impossible triangle is upended, and hearts are broken, leaving fans shaking fists on both sides of the table.

P.S. I Still Love You
In this second book in Lara Jean’s story, Pete and our protagonist are dating for real, but she’s dealing with some social media fallout after a (relatively tame) hot tub hookup is leaked to the web. And, of course, Pete’s ex-girlfriend (and Lara Jean’s former BFF) Genevieve is trying to steal him back. The letters-never-meant-to-be-sent pop up again here, as does another old crush. Perhaps the most fascinating thing about Han’s Love series is how it skews younger in voice—at times, Lara feels decidedly naïve—but tackles big issues, like bullying, loss, and family. There’s also a lot more diversity in this series than in her Summer trilogy, and I definitely call that a win.
