Surprise! Jason Segel Wrote a YA Series
Shortly after his one-year stint as the dopey Nick Andopolis on Judd Apatow’s famously cancelled series Freaks and Geeks, Jason Segel wrote a movie script that was never produced. Twelve years, a blockbuster movie, and a hit sitcom series later, the star has adapted that forgotten script into a series of three young adult novels. Last week he explained that the series is about “kids facing their biggest fears.”
Charmingly, the How I Met Your Mother star says he sold the script for “super cheap,” simply because he “didn’t know any better.” The script remained untouched for eight years as Segel continued building his career. “As I got more successful I kept hoping they wouldn’t realize I was the same Jason Segel as the Jason Segel they bought the script from,” he said.
To wit, the actor’s series—which is slated to come out later this year—is understandably the subject of an intense “bidding war” among publishing houses, according to director Jonathan Demme.
And that’s about all we know! We’d like to take a moment of silence for the Hollywood script hoarder who missed the boat on this one. There’s always Antiques Roadshow?
