Gamaliel Bradford (1863-1932) was a descendant of an old Boston family. He tried his hand at verse and drama before finding his voice as a biographer. Consistently in poor health, he produced 114 books over a period 20 years. Hailed in his time as “the Dean of American biographers,” he pioneered the psychological biography in America.
