Edgar Hoffmann Trooper Price (1898-1988) was a prolific American writer of popular fiction, particularly of short stories. Price's literary career was one of several vocations he tried his hand at; he was a West Point graduate and had planned on a military career. After service in France in World War I, Price saw brief tours of duty in Mexico and in the Philippines before taking up writing in the 1920s. He was an expert fencer and boxer, spoke Arabic, and was what author Jack Williamson called "a real live soldier of fortune." His writing was generally for the pulps, but of good quality. After the demise of the pulp magazines in the 1960s and 1970s, Price turned to writing novels, spurring renewed interest in his works. He was awarded a World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1984 and died in Redwood City, California, in 1988.
