About the Author

Mr Ashis Banerjee has been a consultant in emergency medicine in London for 13 years, having trained in the West Midlands. He is an examiner for London University, the General Medical Council, the College of Emergency Medicine, and the Intercollegiate MRCS for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is an honorary senior lecturer at University College London Medical School and Regional Academic Adviser (North-East Thames) for the College of Emergency Medicine. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries and holds the Freedom of the City of London. He has been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and with postgraduate nursing education for over a decade. Dr Chris Hargreaves qualified from St Marys Hospital 1982. After initial training in anaesthesia, he obtained MRCP in acute medical posts before returning to anaesthesia and Intensive Care training at Kings College, The Royal London, UCH and The Middlesex Hospitals. He was appointed as Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in 1994 at the Whittington. He has overseen expansion of critical care services which have recently relocated to a new unit adjacent to the busy Emergency Department. He is the lead consultant for the tracheostomy team and nutrition team and also has an interest in safety and risk management.
