Nandini Nayar: Nandini Nayar is a Hyderabad-based children’s writer. She has published several picture books with various publishers. Her work is widely published in India, the USA, and the UK, and has been featured on the lists of the US Board on Books for Young People. She also writes for young adults.
Francesco Manetti: Francesco Manetti spent his childhood in the countryside, surrounded by the colors and fragrances of flowering fields. He has a Masters degree in Graphic Design from the Institute IFOTER. He has also studied Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara.

K-Gr 2—A little boy and his mother follow a cumulative format of sharing that is based on the boy's imagination. In What Could It Be? he tries to guess what's in a gift-wrapped box. By the end of the story, he comes up with a game, a doll, a magician's set, and dress-up clothes. When he opens it, he finds all sorts of arts-and-crafts materials: a surefire way of using his imagination. In What Will I Be?, the child plays hide-and-seek with his mother. When she finds him right away, he pretends that he will become a pilot, a magician, a chef, and more, but she devises a quick solution to how she will find him. Finally, the boy realizes that his mother will always be there when he needs her. The objects and occupations he tries on are highlighted in different fonts, and the illustrations are large, clear, and colorful. The characters are from India; the woman wears a sari and has a bindi. While these books could spark imaginative play, the ideas have been recycled many times in picture books.—Susan Lissim, Dwight School, New York City

In a narrative reminiscent of The Runaway Bunny, a young boy imagines escaping from his mother. The would-be runaway considers many careers, from train-engine driver to chef, from magician to zookeeper, from doctor to astronaut, but every time that he tells his mother about his new choice, she tells him how she will seek and find him. The text has a regular, pleasing pattern, with key words highlighted in a special typeface and picked out in different colors. In one typical double-page spread, he declares: "Then I will become an explorer and find new animals. I will stay in the deep jungle and you will never find me!" She rejoins: "But when you discover new animals,…they will be named after you. I will hear the name and know where you are!" Readers may focus on these highlighted words, but they are not linked to a glossary. What stands out is the sheer delight that Sameer and his Amma (mother), pictured in a pink sari, exude as they appear in glowingly painted scenes that feature unusual perspectives. Apart from the sari, the bindi on Amma's forehead and the warm brown faces (which sometimes look like carved wooden dolls), this duo could be from anywhere.
