Embroidery is becoming increasingly popular as a hobby, and Czepuryk adds to the growing number of modern embroidery books with this collection of small motifs that can be made individually or combined into a child’s alphabet quilt. Two variations are provided, one targeted toward girls (containing a ballerina, a tiara, and a purse) and one targeted toward boys (containing a baseball, a dinosaur, and a robot). A guide to embroidery basics and a stitch guide are included. VERDICT The motifs are sweet, and Czepuryk provides plenty of ideas for projects beyond the quilt, such as embellishing clothing or soft fabric blocks. Embroiderers who enjoy designs for children will appreciate Czepuryk’s cute motifs.

I love that embroidery has become so popular again! Combining embroidery and quilting is even better. I love the alphabet designs because they are not the traditional alphabet motifs that you usually see. There is a boy and girl version of a quilt or you can mix them up. The book also has several small projects that you can make if you don’t want to tackle a whole quilt. I can think of many uses for the embroidery patterns, they are so darn cute! I think I am going to start embroidering and make a mixed up quilt since I don’t know if it will be for a boy or a girl. Kristyne gives excellent instructions so even a beginner can make this quilt.

Kristyne has designed two motifs for every letter of the alphabet and worked each of them in straightforward stitches, such as backstitch, stem stitch and satin stitch, and then combined them to make quilts, framed hangings for the nursery wall, cushions and soft blocks. No doubt, you'll think of lots more ways to use the designs to personalise clothing, create unique birthday cards or decorate soft furnishings. There's also a good introductory section on embroidery floss, fabric, transferring designs, trimming embroidered blocks and assembling a quilt.
