Susan's Small Project Treasury of Crochet Patterns
This book is a collection of virtually all of Susan's "small project" crochet patterns; patterns published from 2010 to 2013 are gathered here in six chapters. This latest revision includes more than ten new patterns, including new baby hats, scarves and animal appliqués. There is a total of more than 70 individual patterns; scarves, baby hats, crochet jewelry, craft projects, lots of crocheted flowers, garlands, and more!

If you, like me, are a "project stuffer", starting with ambitious plans only to stuff your yarn and half-finished project in the back of a closet, these designs are the antidote: amall bite-sized things to make which give you the great joy of a little gift to share, a little accessory to wear, a little toddler purse to present to a child. There are easy projects and some (like the hummingbird applique) which are more involved. All of them have photos and detailed instructions, and there is a list of terms and abbreviations at the front of the book. There are even a handful of links to explanatory videos which may help you!

You'll find six chapters: chapter one is the snowflake set (6 patterns) and other ornaments; chapter two is my "Hat, Flower, and Tiny Purse" collection; chapter three is the "Plarn" set of 5 tiny recycled projects made from shopping bags, as well as other crafty items; chapter four is my "Bonus" version of thread crochet jewelry designs as well as lots of scarves; chapter five is all of my "Small Animal" applique patterns, with the Santa Hat; and chapter six is my collection of scarfette and related edging and garland patterns.

Some of the materials you'll need: a few steel crochet hooks (size 1 and 4) and fashion crochet thread (like Lydia's no.3). A few of the thread crochet projects call for fabric stiffener (the snowflakes and jewelry pendants, in particular). And lots of the other patterns (flowers, the two hats) use good old sweater weight yarn or baby weight yarn and an aluminum crochet hook in sizes F through H, mostly. (3.75 mm to 5 mm) You need to know chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, triple crochet, and in one pattern a double triple crochet. Feel free to make and sell these at shows and elsewhere, but please don't pass around or sell Susan's patterns, as they are original and copyrighted designs.

About the Author

Susan Kennedy is an artist and designer who lives and works in the Atlanta, Georgia area. She finds inspiration for her paintings and design work in nature, children's literature, and current culture. Animals, flowers, natural shapes in the ocean and forest all inspire Susan to create stitches, appliques, scarves and many more fanciful crocheted items. Working in cotton thread and all types of yarn, Susan always has a crochet hook in hand, ready to explore a new idea.
Susan also works in oil and watercolor, showing paintings around the Southeastern United States and teaching landscape in Forsyth County. You can visit www.susankennedy.com to see Susan's fine art work or www.susanshippiecrochet.blogspot.com to find out about her latest crochet creations!
