Black Diamond brings together an ex-professional football player, a blue blood matriarch from Savannah, a transvestite drifter, a South African gold miner, a wealthy business tycoon, several FBI agents, and a funeral director.

The novel erupts in Nashville Tennessee with the brutal murder of a prominent businessman. While investigating the murder, the local authorities identify three people of interest. Their reasoning being, number one, the three are trying to leave Nashville in an extreme hurry and seemingly, all together. Number two, all three of them work for the same international investment company, Fingerelli Investment Group, or FIG. And finally, Fingerelli Investment Group is already on the FBI’s radar for possible involvement in drug trafficking, two previous murders, embezzlement, and money laundering.

The book continues as the authorities begin to follow the three rogue employees. The three prove to be goofballs, and the local press tags them as The Three FIG Newtons. A funeral director from Savannah, Franklin Baxter, is asked to go to Nashville, embalm the body of the murdered businessman, and return him to Savannah for a memorial service. Three Fig Newtons decide Baxter is up to no good, and follow him back to Savannah, then finally onto the island of St. Taino, a fictitious island in the Caribbean ocean. Out of the country, and away from the eyes of the authorities, the Three Fig Newtons relax believing they are out of trouble. There is nothing further from the truth.
