D.B. Cooper: The $200,000 Hijacking
On November 24, 1971, a man who identified himself as Dan Cooper purchased a one-way ticket on Flight 305 in Portland.
Cooper boarded the aircraft, a Boeing 727–100, lit a cigarette and ordered a bourbon and water.
After takeoff, Cooper passed a note to the flight attendant and then leaned toward her and whispered, "Miss, you'd better look at that note. I have a bomb."
The airline ended up giving Dan Cooper $200,000 cash money. He parachuted out of the plane while in mid-air and disappeared with the money. Never to be seen again.
Later on, when the news media got wind of the story, there was a media miscommunication and by the time the story got out to the public, Dan Cooper had become known as D. B. Cooper.
