About the Author

Sandra L. Luthringer, RD, LDN, brings more than 25 years’ experience as a registered dietitian to this project, with most of those being at the Regional Cancer Center in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was a founding member and chair of the American Dietetic Association’s Oncology Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group. She served on the boards for the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society and helped to develop many of their nutrition pamphlets and programs that are used nationwide today. She has spoken to a variety of audiences, has authored several chapters in textbooks, and coedited the book Nutritional Issues in Cancer Care, published by the Oncology Nursing Society.After more than 20 years working in the field of oncology, and ready for a new challenge, Sandra became a nutrition entrepreneur! Today, she owns a studio kitchen/retail store, Super Suppers, and is a nutrition consultant, providing nutrition services to a variety of organizations in the Erie area.

Valerie J. Kogut, MA, RD, LDN, is a nutrition consultant. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the field of oncology nutrition. She previously worked at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and for the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she was responsible for the implementation and provision of appropriate nutritional care for the patients undergoing cancer treatments. She also developed educational materials and presented many programs in the field of oncology nutrition. She is a previous chair of the American Dietetic Association’s Oncology Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group. She is coeditor of the book Nutritional Issues in Cancer Care, published by the Oncology Nursing Society. Valerie is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Nursing at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and also currently works as an eRecord training specialist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
