Illustration Index VII, 1987-1991
This seventh volume of the Illustration Index is entirely new and covers the years 1987-1991. It follows the patterns of scope, style, and arrangement set in volumes IV through VI. Over 19,000 individual subject headings, encompassing about 28,000 entries, attest to the depth of indexing. Entries tend toward the specific, and there are extensive cross-references and multiple listings for most illustrations. Indexed to provide a cross-cultural perspective. There is a major emphasis in historical and socio-cultural phenomena. Though not claiming to be totally comprehensive, the only illustrations methodically excluded are ads. Individual personalities are included, provided that they are considered of sufficient historical significance to warrant a separate article in the World Book Encyclopedia. The rationale for this criterion is the fact that photos of people enjoying ephemeral fame abound and can easily be located through the periodical indexes. Reviews from previous volumes: "... an absolute must for anyone working with the public and periodicals." —LIBRARY JOURNAL "... a serviceable, functional index.... worth purchasing...." —REFERENCE BOOKS BULLETIN "This continuation of a highly successful index series is a valuable addition to any reference collection." —ARBA " A very useful index which can benefit the casual user as well as the advanced researcher.... Highly recommended for libraries with picture files and for those with general periodical collections." —ARBA "... sui generis as a source for locating pictures." —WILSON LIBRARY BULLETIN
