Livingood while he was a Flight Surgeon assigned to the U. S. Marine Corps fighter squadron, VMF-213, also known as the Hell Hawks. Many of the poems were written by a VMF-213 pilot.

About the Author

John Livingood is the son of Captain William C. Livingood, Sr., U.S. Navy Retired, now deceased. Captain Livingood, referred to as Doc Livingood in the book, had collected poems in 1943 during three combat tours in the South Pacific while a flight surgeon with a U. S. Marine fighter squadron, VMF-213, also known as the Hell Hawks. Doc livingood maintained extensive documents and records during these tours and many are recreated at VMF-213.com.
