About the Author

William H. Shannon, founder and first president of the International Thomas Merton Society; he is also the author of several books on Merton, including the acclaimed biography Silent Lamp. Msgr. Shannon is a priest of the diocese of Rochester, New York.

Christine M. Bochen is past president of the Merton Society and professor of religious studies at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. She is editor of Thomas Merton: Essential Writings (Orbis Books Modern Spiritual Masters Series).

Patrick F. O'Connell, past president of the Merton Society, is editor of The Merton Seasonal and editor of Thomas Merton: Selected Essays. He lives in Erie, PA.
