lightning

Lightning is a bright light sometimes seen in the sky during a storm. It is electricity between clouds or between a cloud and the ground. Thunder is the sound that comes after lightning.

When something is like something else, it looks, acts, feels, or seems the same in some way. Tad is dressed like a clown.

If you like something, it means that it makes you happy. I like to read. liked, liking.

line

1. A line is a long, thin mark. Jan used a pencil to draw a line across the paper. 2. A line is also things in a row. We stood in line for the bus. lines.

lion

A lion is one kind of large, wild cat. Lions are yellow or brown. lions.

lip

A lip is the part of your face around your mouth. People have two lips. lips.

liquid

A liquid is something that is wet when you touch it. A liquid can be poured. Water and milk are liquids. liquids.

list

A list is a number of things that are written down. Lauren made a list of the people she wanted at her party. lists.

listen

Listen means to try to hear in a careful way. The children listened to the story. Thelma likes to listen to music. I like listening to the sound of rain falling on the roof. listened, listening.

lit

Lit comes from the word light. We lit a candle to find our way down the dark hall. Uncle Dave lit the logs in the fireplace.

little

1. When something is little, it is small. My little sister can't walk yet. An ant is little. That is the littlest puppy that I have ever seen. 2. Little also means not very much. Jack drank only a little juice because he wasn't thirsty. Cally used a little red in her painting. We only spent a little time picking apples because it started to rain. littler, littlest.
