Paul Yee was born in Spalding, Saskatchewan, and grew up in Vancouver’s Chinatown. As a former archivist with the city of Vancouver and the Archives of Ontario, he brings to his books extensive knowledge of written and photographic historical records. He has published many books on the experiences of the Chinese in North America, including Breakaway, a YALSA Best Book for Young Adults, two adult non-fiction titles and several picture books. When it was first published, Ghost Train was the winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Prix Enfantasie and the Ruth Schwartz Award; Tales from Gold Mountain, his first prize-winning collection of folktales, was named a Parent’s Choice Honor Book, Bulletin Blue Ribbon Book and received starred reviews in Booklist and the Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books. Dead Man’s Gold, a short story collection drawing on ghost stories told among early Chinese immigrants in Canada and the United States, was named a Kiriyama Pacific Rim Prize Notable Book. He lives in VancouverHarvey Chan immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong as a teenager. He has won the Ruth Schwartz Children’s Book Award three times — with Paul Yee for Roses Sing on New Snow and Ghost Train, and for Music for the Tsar of the Sea by Celia Barker Lottridge. Ghost Train also won the Canadian Library Association’s Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Award and the Prix Enfantaisie. Harvey woks as an illustrator and fine artist. He lives in Toronto.
