CHAPTER 1

What's in The Book? Some Biblical What's, How's, And Where's on Prayer

Since the real message behind the stories, promises, and commands in the Bible is relating to God in a personal way, it only makes sense that His written Word would have a lot to say about prayer.

That it most certainly does!

This chapter is a collection of biblical advice, commands, promises, and wisdom on the subject of prayer. And while we couldn't get everything the Bible has to say about prayer to fit in this chapter, what you're about to read will give you some pretty solid guidelines for your life of prayer.

Some Biblical Prayer Trivia

The Bible's first mention of prayer:

"And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord" (Genesis 4:26).

"My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant" (Genesis 18:3).

The Bible's first use of the word prayer: "For thou, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee" (2 Samuel 7:27).

The Bible's last use of the word prayer: "And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand" (Revelation 8:4).

Number of verses that include the word prayer: 128
