Grateful But Not Dead
My Dad, Lenny Hart, must have had enormous charisma and charm to bamboozle the Dead, Bankers, Savings & Loans, Church Members, and of course Wives and Children, one after the other for as long as he did.

Unlike the narrator in most memoirs; this book is my memoir, not another biographic-dump for Deadheads "looking' to score the dirty on the band".[Grateful But not Dead] is my story of my famous family and the impact on me, the son of the manager and half-brother of the drummer. That's it!

I'm not looking to harm with my stories of my famous family. My journey started by bringing my mother's repressed thoughts about my Dad to the surface, exceedingly painful and emotional at times. Writing my dream; a memoir, is scarier than I expected.

Grateful But Not Dead, a necessary step in providing a level of finality and closure to an episode that haunted not only a family, but also one of the most legendary rock bands in music history.

About the Author

I tell the “true” story of a young man searching for his late father in every conversation with his brother Mickey Hart. Who was the real Lenny Hart? What did he do to reach the top of the list of “Worst Fathers in Rock and Roll History?” “What effect do the sins of a father have on his children? How can a son prove to people that he is not like his dad? How does a child escape his father’s larcenous reputation?”

No one has written a book about uncovering the persona of my father, Leonard Hart. What kind of culture propelled my father to betray those who entrusted him with their future? Having examined that, how does that affect the lives of the people that were devastated by being in his life, offering an explanation why decades later, fans and the band they adore still lament his choices.
