This book is part of the series "Gente Que Hay Que Conocer." The reader gets a sense of John F. Kennedy's childhood and family through black-and-white photographs and comparisons between John and his older brother Joe. The text is appropriate for third-through-fifth grade students. Because the book is organized into chapters and subchapters and includes an index, students are able to use it for school reports. The photos and captions enhance the text and explain what was happening at the time. Chapter 1: "An Active Boy," tells of John F. Kennedy's life from birth through college, highlighting his family, his illnesses, and injuries. Chapter 2 is titled "War Hero." After college, J.F.K. joined the navy. This chapter is about how he heroically rescued the crew of his PT 109 ship. In Chapter 3: "Public Figure," the reader learns that J.F.K.'s father had planned for Joe to go into politics. When Joe died, Mr. Kennedy told his son John to work in politics. This chapter chronicles J.F.K.'s political career before he ran for president. Chapter 4: "Force for Change" is about his decision to run for president of the U.S. and what he accomplished. There is a subchapter about the day he was assassinated. At the end of the book there are lists of books and websites for more information about John F. Kennedy.
