George S. Patton, Jr., was the commander of the US Third Army during the Allied Invasion of Normandy in 1944. A veteran of the First World War and a crucial figure in the development of the US Army’s armored warfare doctrine, his aggressive and successful leadership in World War II has led him to be called by many historians as one of the greatest generals of the war.
