The “True Books” series has been around for many years. This title is an updated version that should prove useful in units on animals or for simple reports by youngsters in the elementary grades. The opening page presents a challenge to readers to discover which of the two listed is false (the answer is found on the last page). Four chapters are full of interesting information. Explanations are given about work done by animals; the endurance and stamina of animals, and how animals can perform tasks that humans are unable to accomplish. The last chapter describes some most unusual feats performed by pigs, birds, and bees. It also discusses how modern technology uses fish-shaped robots for research. Clear and lively colored photos are found on each page. Additional information relating to some of the pictures is printed in bright blue or red type. Also included are an index, glossary, bibliography, and link to a Scholastic website. Add this volume to the collection if needed or if other titles in the series are in demand. Reviewer: Sylvia Firth; Ages 8 to 10.
