The Teaching Assistant's Bible: Guide for Graduate Students, Adjuncts and College Instructors
I was one of the lucky ones. At my university, my department offered or rather cryptically informed me that I would have to take a six-week course if I wanted to be a Teaching Assistant. This course was not offered in every department and you had to be teaching my subject in order to sign up for the class. This turned out to be an excellent experience and prepared me for an environment unlike any other; the university and college classroom.
A lot of graduate teaching assistants, new adjuncts and college instructors are 'thrown to the wolves' every semester and have to rely on their former experience as a student government leader, soldier in the military or Dungeon and Dragon team leader experience in order to prepare for their new role as an instructor.
You do not have to do this as I volunteer to serve as your mentor and will help you prepare for your new role. I served as a Teaching Assistant and Graduate instructor for almost five years while pursuing my Ph.D. As a professor, I am now offering knowledge and insight I received during that time.
Why learn the hard way? Avoid the hoops and hurdles by reading this book.
