An addition to the “Change Makers” series, this volume looks at the impact of popular entertainers as role models. Each double-paged spread features a different entertainer. The text includes awards won, roles played, and the charitable cause each champions. Some of the charities highlighted are involved with world hunger, humanitarian issues, refugees around the world, and violence against women. There is one double-paged spread at the end of the book offering suggestions for young people to get involved in worthwhile change in their own homes, schools, and communities. However, these suggestions offer nothing that school children are not currently doing in many areas. Young readers will enjoy the beautiful photos of the entertainment stars. The information about them is very limited and somewhat disjointed. For example, the pages about Angelina Jolie are largely about her humanitarian work, compared with pages about Leonardo DiCaprio, which barely mention his concerns on overfishing and climate change. A shiny cover, glossy pages, and colorful graphics catch the eye at first, but a more serious look illuminates the shallow information with no bibliographic follow-up. Also, the book is very expensive for what it offers. This book is not recommended for school or public libraries. Librarians with strained budgets can find better books to meet their needs.
