Can you count and write the Arabic numbers from one to twenty? One way to learn is to use this book to trace the numbers with your fingers to learn how to write them. An arrow shows the starting point for little fingers. In addition, there is a flap to lift revealing an item other than the one depicted and named on the outside of the flap. One ball is pictured, but when the flap is lifted readers see one fat cat. For three the approach is different, lifting the flap reveals the third item which in this case is a parrot with an accompanying comment. The pattern changes as the numbers get larger. For example, there are seven balloons on the page and one more is revealed when the flap is lifted and the text states that number nine floats away and of course the featured number is nine. It is a clever but pretty sophisticated book. For even larger numbers all the items like the starfish and ladybugs are present. There is a spread recapping all the numbers. Another introduces math problems (addition) and flaps when lifted reveal the answers. The back cover offers helpful hints for using the book with kids. Part of the "Smart Kids Trace-and-Flip" series.
