Michael Malone writes the Introduction and contributes a short story. He has written over a dozen books, including Handling Sin and Uncivil Seasons. A former television writer, he is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Emmy, O Henry and Edgar. Allan Gurganus is the author of Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All, Plays Well With Others, White People and The Practical Heart. His short stories appear in The New Yorker, among other publications. Lee Smith is the author of twelve novels and four collections of short stories. Her books include Fair and Tender Ladies and On Agate Hill. Randall Kenan is the author of A Visitation of Spirits, Let the Dead Bury Their Dead, and The Fire This Time, among other books. He is recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Sherwood Anderson Award, and the Rome Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Jill McCorkle is the author of nine books, including July 7th, The Cheerleader, and Going Away Shoes. She is recipient of North Carolina Award for Literature, the John Dos Passos Prize, and many other awards. Craig Nova has written twelve novels, including The Good Son, Cruisers, and the Informer. He is recipient of Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters.
