About the Author

Michael Morpurgo OBE, is an English author, poet, playwright and librettist, best known for his work in children’s literature. He was the third Children’s Laureate. He has written over 120 books, and has been published in over 25 languages. His children’s novel War Horse has been adapted for stage where it became a smashhit success in the UK, before transferring to Broadway and Toronto. War Horse has also been adapted for screen, directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 2012.
Emma Rice is the Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe and directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream for The Wonder Season. For the last 20 years she has worked for Kneehigh as an actor, director and Artistic Director. Her productions for Kneehigh include: 946: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, The Red Shoes, The Wooden Frock, Nights at the Circus, The Bacchae, Tristan&Yseult, Cymbeline, A Matter of Life and Death, Rapunzel, Brief Encounter, Don John, Midnight’s Pumpkin, The Wild Bride, Wah! Wah! Girls and Steptoe and Son. Other work includes: the West End production of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Oedipussy (Spymonkey), The Empress (RSC), An Audience with Meow Meow (Berkeley Repertory Theatre), Rebecca (a David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers Production in association with Kneehigh) and most recently The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk for Kneehigh (in association with Bristol Old Vic).
