Beautiful, creative illustrations and straightforward prose make the Bible stories in this book come alive for young children. The way the pictures and text are interwoven on each page is visually appealing. For example, in the story of Jonah, swirling water, fish, seaweed and text form circles around a free falling Jonah. The formatting of text and illustrations is imaginative and will engage young children. As the author notes in her introduction, however, some of the stories contain material that young children may find disturbing. Questions that arise provide parents and children an opportunity to use the stories as a springboard to discuss together the context and meaning of the stories. The book contains eight Old Testament and six New Testament stories as well as an illustrated list of main characters from the Bible stories. Children's Literature

Many of the 13 Bible stories in this book are appropriate for young children. However, some of the text may trouble young children and may necessitate some editing for the reader, for example, in recounting the story of Noah the text states, "Everyone will be drowned except you and your family." In the Adam and Eve story when God banishes them from the garden he stations "an angel with a fiery sword at the gate." The illustrations are integral to the book and will capture childrens' imaginations.
