A Happy Anniversary!
A Happy Anniversary is the introductory novel of the Bea Happy Romance Series. The series is a faith based humorous yet spiritually thought provoking fiction. Readers will love its comical realism, spiritual messages and enriching life lessons. Dating, romance, and marriage is a popular and important topic in today's Christian community. This novel attempts to present it in a manner that aligns biblically and culturally. The focus of the novels in this series is relationships; relationship with God, spouse and family, romantic interests and friends, and church and community.
Beatrice Leanne Happy is a thirty-five year old, divorced, African American Christian hoping to grow in God and realize her destiny while very much wanting to find Mister Right. Bea lives in a small Virginia town as she grapples with her emotional, familial, and spiritual conflicts in her young but firm faith. She treks through a season of spiritual growth with class and sass while managing to demonstrate the sometimes subtle and often blaring differences between God's way and the world's way. Bea's metamorphosis of renewing her mind to conform to a more Christ centered lifestyle is done with humor and truthfulness to the human condition. She demonstrates in pragmatic ways how it should and should not be done. Character flaws are evident but her love for the Lord pushes through even when she makes wrong choices.
Bea's most challenging dilemma in this novel is an unmanageable attraction to her childhood crush and neighbor, Butch Morgan, who also moves back to town. He's making the moves on Bea but sending her mixed signals. She's confused by his hot and cold come on and bothered by her fierce desire for this notorious and gorgeous Romeo. To complicate matters there's a rival for her affections. A funeral director, Ted Castle, has pursued Bea for a while but she can't get past her repulsion for his profession.
Bea amusingly parlays the compartments of her life; faith, family, and romance. The events of this novel occur around her parent's fiftieth golden wedding anniversary. Bea's bickering parents, an out spoken cane-wielding grandmother, three very different siblings, and her confused dog with behavioral problems make up her one big Happy family. There are several other interesting people in her circle of associations as well.
This crossover series is entertaining yet broaches some important issues of our contemporary society and clearly demonstrates a Christ centered focus in relation to the everyday life of ordinary people. Highlighting dilemmas many people of faith wrestle with concerning their love life. Overall the story demonstrates true living faith in Christ does not have to be unduly burdensome, hypocritical, or legalistically mundane but a spiritual adventure with victories and failures but ultimately the lasting road to happiness.
