A Man and His Master: My Years with Yogi Ramsuratkumar
When some hear of Mani's life With Yogi Ramsuratkumar, they may fall prey to the false assumption that Mani personally decided that he would drop his life as a very successful businessman and entrepreneur and overnight become a renunciate of the Beggar King of Tiruvannamalai. Mani's abrupt change in his life's direction is not a story of personal willfulness and discipline. It is a story of one who is ready to encounter an authentic path to the Divine.

I am reminded of a conversation I had with Mani in December 2000, in Kanyakumari, South India. We were talking about his life with Yogi Ramsuratkumar. I asked him why he placed the large murti statue of Yogi Ramsuratkumar in the temple where he did. Mani was literally shocked at my question and shot back a caustic comment: "Is this the way you approach your teacher? Do you question what your teacher asks before you do it?" He emphatically stated that he placed the murti exactly where Yogi Ramsuratkumar told him to place it and he did NOT ask any questions. He said that he was sorry if he hurt my feelings but my question reflected a lack of understanding of how one serves the Guru.

Mani lived this teaching throughout his tenure at the Yogi Ramsuratkumar Ashram. His wonderful experiences of life with Yogi Ramsuratkumar are imbued with the intimate immediacy of the presence of this Saint, the teaching of the Guru to the disciple, and the heartfelt surrender of one deeply touched by Grace.
