This is Buckley's guide to the key characters and plot points in his The Sisters Grimm series, currently in its ninth book with the final title coming soon. The stories revolve around fairy tale detectives Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, sent to live with their grandmother after their parents are cast into a sleep that can only be cured by true love's kiss. Visually, the guide is stunning and showcases intriguing side characters, like Mirror (the man who worked on the wall for the Wicked Queen in Snow White) and Mr. Canis, who has the Big Bad Wolf living inside him. The guide is peppered by snarky commentary from impish, romantic interest, Puck. People who have read the books in the series are probably better served by this guide than anyone who comes completely unaware of the story. The guide reveals quite a few spoilers from the books. Other than a few profiles of true-life fairy tale authors, like Hans Christian Andersen, and Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm (naturally), there does not appear to be much original content to draw in enthusiasts. In this age of special features and hidden "Easter eggs," interviews or insights from the author should have been in order. Or a few hints about what is to come. There does not appear to be much here that a reader could not get from the books themselves, but if it gets newcomers to seek out Sabrina and Daphne, maybe that is the way to measure its success.
