About the Author

Joe Giron's professional career began in 1983 as a staff photographer for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in Texas. A chance assignment to shoot an up-and-coming local band led to a lasting friendship with one of hard rock's most revered bands, Pantera. That, in turn, led to shooting many other artists, including AC/DC, David Bowie, Gwen Stefani, Van Halen, and U2, just to name a handful, for many of the world's leading rock magazines. Today, his niche is in the gaming industry as the photographer for the World Poker Tour and head of the official photography team at the World Series of Poker. He lives in Las Vegas.

A Vulgar Display of Pantera (9781944713003)
Foreword by Rex Brown

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, in this case, all I can say is the pictures you're about to see are worth a million!!

All of these images left an indelible mark on so many, including myself. Not only are they incredible shots, but they also tell a great story. If you're not familiar with PANTERA, you should go back and listen to the stamp that we made-all over the world-through out music and the lifestyle that we led. For me, these images hold so much substance. Within each, lies an emotion, a solitary moment of who we were at the time, both as individuals and as a band. In them I can see not only the struggles we endured, but also a celebration of Life itself.

A lot of these "pics," as we call them, center around our beloved Dimebag because, nine times out of ten, he was at the center of our story, laughing and enjoying life to its full. It didn't matter that so many places, backstage areas and otherwise, looked the same, he made each one feel new and different, always with a joke or prank that created our unique fellowship. We were four thoroughly individual people, striving toward one common goal: perfection at what we did and Insanity, all bundled into one!!
