Overview

The 1998 Good Friday Agreement concerning Northern Ireland holds valuable lessons for the resolution of the conflict between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, believes author Koithara (a former vice admiral with the Indian military and now an independent security analyst). After describing the roots and drivers of the Kashmir situation, he analyzes Northern Ireland, as well as the conflicts in Sri Lanka and Israel-Palestine, in terms of the structural, attitudinal, and behavioral dimensions of the conflict in order to find a path to the resolution over Kashmir. He concludes with a discussion of how that resolution lies in moving towards turning the current Line of Control into a recognized international boundary.
