Academic Nursing Practice: Helping to Shape the Future of Healthcare
Winner of an AJN Book of the Year Award!

Academic Nursing Practice can be a living laboratory that integrates the education, practice, and research mission of a school of nursing. Where better to demonstrate the efficacy of new practice models and interventions, identify questions for further study, teach students, and keep faculty skills fresh?

This book describes how to develop and implement these nurse-managed practices, based on the extensive experience of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, along with case examples from other programs. Practical strategies described include securing university support, outside funding, and academic-community partnerships.

Academic Nursing Practice offers an opportunity for nursing to exert leadership on the pressing issues facing today's health care system --access, quality, and cost. This book is an excellent resource to begin planning for one.

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

Academic Nursing Practice represents an extraordinary, scholarly integration of information on the practice of nursing within academic settings. Never before has so much essential content been organized into one place. Through their work, Evans and Lang will be responsible for significantly advancing our knowledge on this topic. This is a landmark text and a ‘must’ for those whose work advances academic nursing practice."
—Catherine L. Gilliss, DNSc, RN, FAAN, Dean and Professor, The Yale School of Nursing

"This is a cutting-edge volume that will propel academic nursing practice to next levels of creating, managing, and challenging academic institutions to provide innovative care that is based on the translation of well-tested models of care. It is a must-read for administrators, faculty, graduate students, and all who want to transform care giving in an ailing health care system. It also provides guidelines for our international colleagues in academic health care centers who want to experiment with their practice mission. It is a book edited by two educators/nurses who are the most knowledgeable about academic-run practices. They are joined by leading authorities in the field to provide the evidence that nursing faculty must model an integrative approach to research and education through maintaining an active role in practice, particularly through community-academic partnerships."
—Afaf I. Meleis, PhD, DrPS (Hon), FAAN, Margaret Bond Simon Dean of Nursing, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing

"Academic nursing practice offers opportunity for nursing to exert leadership on the pressing issues facing today's health care system... This book is an excellent resource to begin planning."—Doody Enterprises, Inc.
