About the Author

Herman Parish was in the fourth grade when his aunt, Peggy Parish, wrote the first book about Amelia Bedelia. The author lives in Princeton, New Jersey.

Lynn Sweat has illustrated many Amelia Bedelia books, including Go West, Amelia Bedelia! He and his wife live in Connecticut.

Amelia Bedelia is up to her old tricks again as she takes what everyone says literally. This time she is helping an elementary-school teacher, Miss Edwards, with a science fair. Everything turns into a disaster as Amelia Bedelia puts too much baking soda in a model volcano, blows her bonnet into the air along with a judge's toupee, and makes a horrendous mess. She does recover by helping Miss Edwards clean up the mess and gave the judge an idea for a new scientific invention that he brought back to the fair to share with Amelia and the students. Like other "Amelia Bedelia" books this one ends with her own donation to the science fair, lemon meringue pies. This is a useful book for inferential thinking and deciphering what is really meant verses how Amelia Bedelia takes it. 2005, Greenwillow Books/HarperCollins Publishers, and Ages 7 to 9.

K-Gr 3-The beloved Amelia Bedelia is back, this time as a helper in the school science fair. Naturally, the literal-minded housekeeper runs into all sorts of misunderstandings, from insisting children are way too young for "makeup" tests, to wondering why Dr. Dinglebatt, the judge, is a mad scientist. Havoc breaks loose when Amelia Bedelia adds too much baking soda to a volcano model, and when the professor's hairpiece falls on a computer, a child screeches, "A rat is attacking the mouse!" As per formula, all ends happily with food and smiles while everyone eats the maid's famous lemon meringue pie.
