Some illustrations show the vehicles in action, such as a photograph of a Light Amphibious Resupply Cargo rolling out of the water and onto a beach. Other illustrations label the parts of each vehicle, such as the tank’s tracks and the aircraft carrier’s control tower. In this way, the illustrations serve to expand the reader’s vocabulary and understanding. The author uses carefully chosen words to make the text more interesting and evocative, such as: “submarines act as secret underwater guards.” The definitions and facts sprinkled through the book are supplemented by the glossary and a short list of texts for additional reading. Unfortunately, the websites linked on FactHound go directly to a sales site rather than an educational website, leaving the reader to find websites for supplemental information on their own.
