Awakening in Prairie Light 2nd ed
Awakening in Prairie Light, Book 1 of A Prairie Trilogy (Books 2 and 3 are, respectively, A Prairie Labyrinth and Prairie Elms: The Ladies and Gentlemen of Plano, Ill), celebrates the heartland of America in the mid 1900’s as it traces the author’s journey as a prairie child of nature. Drawing on unique experiences, layers of rich images are used to show the intrusion of chance in our lives. The outcomes may not always be pleasing, but the truth and insight at the heart of these poems make such journeys worth the costs. People and love, weather and history, travel and culture intertwine to provide the indefinable emotions that connect us to the earth and to one another. From flowers to the stars, from hot searing days through cold transcendent nights, everyone and everything get into the act in this short but entertaining collection. Taken together they show the passion of those who seek meaning and joy without regard to risk.

About the Author

From the upper Midwest, Masat now lives with wife in Key West, FL, where he is a 24/7 wildlife rescuer. He holds a PhD, has won prizes, and retired after 36 years in academia. He has been an editor, farmer, diver, carpenter, salesperson, politician, cook, baker, parent, and grandparent. His work thus draws upon experience and combines unapologetic naturalism with formal clarity and emotion. It appears worldwide in over 100 anthologies and journals. His recent books are A Prairie Labyrinth (poetry, Book 2 of A PRAIRIE TRILOGY, Barnes & Noble/Nook, 2011), Prairie Elms: the Ladies and Gentlemen of Plano, IL, (occasional poems, Book 3 of A PRAIRIE TRILOGY, Barnes & Noble/Nook, 2011), Threshing (poetry, March Street Press, 2010), Lilacs After Winter (haibun, MET Press, 2008), and A Taste of Key West (poetry, Pudding House Publications, 2008). He also co-edited Among the Lilies (a Shadow Poetry anthology, 2008) and presently co-edits the column “Key-ku,” haiku of Key West and the Florida Keys.
