About the Author

Nick Bruel is the author and illustrator of the phenomenally successful Bad Kitty series, including the 2012 and 2013 CBC Children's Choice Book Award winners Bad Kitty Meets the Baby and Bad Kitty for President. Nick has also written and illustrated popular picture books, including Who is Melvin Bubble?, Bob and Otto, and his latest, A Wonderful Year. Nick lives with his wife and daughter in Westchester, New York.
Nick Bruel is the author and illustrator of New York Times bestseller Boing, Bad Kitty, Bad Kitty Gets a Bath and Bad Kitty Meets the Baby, among others. Nick is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist, and during his down time, he collects PEZ dispensers and grows tomatoes in the backyard. He lives in Tarrytown, NY with his wife Carina and their lovely cat Esmerelda.

Part of the “Bad Kitty” series, in this story the feisty black kitty becomes a scaredy-cat on Halloween when she encounters a slew of creatures who come to the door to trick or treat. But before that, Kitty is not at all scared and most of her twenty-six (from A to Z) encounters with the dog illustrate that. She is variously a Daring kitty, a Resolute kitty, a Vexed or Zestful kitty. But then “one dark and foggy night,” all this changes when an assortment of creatures come knocking on the door. Now alliterative, the creatures include the Frightful Frankenstein, the Ghastly Goblin, and the Putrid Pirate. So many terrifying creatures! This is how she becomes such a timid scaredy-cat. Until…one of the creatures drops the candy and Kitty, after seeing the (again alphabetical) assortment of candy, goes on the offense, deciding to become a BAD KITTY. She Clobbers the Clown, Eradicates the Ectoplasm, Mauls the Mummy and so on, and succeeds in chasing all the creatures away. No more scaredy-cat for this kitty. Well, almost—there is still that dog to contend with. Some kids might grow tiresome of the abundance of alphabetical lists, but the cute antics of this expressive cartoon-kitty should amuse young readers and keep their eyes on the page as they reinforce alphabet skills and expand their vocabulary.
