Best known as an author, Lew Wallace (1827-1905) was also a soldier, a lawyer, and a diplomat to the Far East. As a prolific writer who often drew upon his own experiences, he is best remembered for Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ, one of the most popular novels of the nineteenth century.
