Purpose: The first oncology nursing textbook dedicated to biotherapy, this book is designed to provide an overview of the principles of biotherapy, a description of the major biologic agents (interferons, interleukins, hematopoietic growth factors, monoclonal antibodies, tumor necrosis factor and immunomodulators) and the nursing management of patients receiving them. The reader will find this difficult topic presented in a clear and logical manner. Many will appreciate having one resource on biologic agents.
Audience: The oncology nurse is the primary audience. However, others such as educators, administrators, researchers, and pharmacists, will also find it helpful. The authors are well known and respected in their fields. Contributors include a variety of nurse experts, as well as a physician and a psychologist.
Features: The structure of the book is logical and the writing is clear and easy to read. The references are current and from a variety of sources: nursing, medicine, and basic science journals and books. The well-known figures describing the immune system provide the basis for understanding the action and function of biologic response modifiers.
